Contractor Transactions Under Investigation

A warning from local police to be careful before you hire a contractor, especially if you find them on social media.

Deep River Police say they are investigating several complaints about a contractor working locally.

Investigators say many residents of Deep River and across Renfrew County have lost large deposits of cash, with work either being done poorly, not being completed, or in some cases, the contractor not even showing up.

In a Facebook post published on Friday, Deep River Police said they were looking to speak to anyone who had dealings with one contractor in particular.

"The Deep River Police would like to remind the public to be cautious when hiring contractors or workers over social media", said Deep River Police Const. Anne Ray.

"Hire contractors who give proper references, check out the references and never give major deposits until work is complete.  Also get all pertinent information from the contractor including their names, addresses, telephone numbers or contact information and insurance policies, covering them while they are working on your property", added Const. Ray.
