Four Local Groups Applying To Be "Ontario Health Teams"

Get ready to hear about "Ontario Health Teams" more often.

They're the new groups that will help patients navigate the healthcare system after provincial changes and cuts to health agencies and administrations.

The new teams will work together to coordinate help and advice for patients .. on everything from finding a doctor or specialist to home and community care.

Locally, there are four groups submitting applications.

One application is based in the Pembroke area:  the Upper Ottawa Valley Health Team, consisting of professionals from the Pembroke Regional Hospital, Algonquins of Pikwakanagan and partners.

Another bid, the Highway 60 Ontario Health Team, includes the Renfrew Victoria Hospital, St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Barry's Bay and partners.

The North Renfrew Ontario Health Team bid includes Deep River & District Hospital and partners.

And, the Three Rivers Ontario Health Team would include the Arnprior & District Hospital and partners.

Renfrew County's Chief Administrative Officer Paul Moreau says it's good to have applicants from all corners of the County, and all four met for the first time in one room last Thursday.

"At the end of the day, there was a willingness to continue the conversation, and we were quite pleased with that, moving forward", Moreau told Pure Country 96.7.

"Ultimately, what we'd like to do is make sure that healthcare, and the delivery of healthcare in the County of Renfrew, is patient-centred", Moreau added.

The province will be announcing this fall who the successful new health teams are.
