Gallant To Open Campaign Office
As Canadians wait for the official call for the October 21st federal election, preparations continue to take shape locally.
On Monday afternoon, incumbent Cheryl Gallant will open her Conservative campaign office at 680 Pembroke Street East.
Gallant is vying for her seventh straight term this election, having first been sent to Parliament Hill by voters in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke back in 2000.
Hoping to unseat her are a list of candidates that include Liberal candidate Ruben Marini, the NDP's Eileen Jones-Whyte, the Green party's Ian Pineau, David Ainsworth of the People's Party of Canada, and independent candidate Dan Criger.
Meanwhile, some pollsters believe the Prime Minister is delaying his visit to the Governor General to dissolve Parliament and officially kick off the election campaign until the last possible minute in order to try to dominate the news cycle with other announcements.
CTV News pollster Nik Nanos says it's likely part of a strategy on the part of the governing Liberals.
The latest day the election campaign could be kicked off is Sunday, September 15th.
