Lumber Kings Release 2019-2020 Schedule
The Pembroke Lumber Kings have releaesd their 2019-2020 schedule.
The home opener will be September 22nd at the PMC against the Smiths Falls Bears, which is sure to be an interesting game on a variety of fronts.
Smiths Falls is the team that the new Lumber Kings owner and coach, Alex Armstrong, was behind the bench with last season.
The Bears, meanwhile, are now coached by Pat Malloy, who coached the Kings for much of last season.
The two teams also recently completed a nine-player trade.
The Kings will play a majority of their 29 home games on Sunday nights at the PMC, with three Wednesday night home games and a Friday night home game as well.
The popular "school day" game is set for Friday, October 25 at 11 a.m. against the defending league champions, the Ottawa Junior Senators. The only other afternoon game at the PMC is on Super Bowl Sunday, February 2, when the Kings host the Kanata Lasers at 3 p.m.
Pembroke will get its season started on Thursday, September 5 when the Kings travel to Kanata. That’s the first of a six game road trip that includes three games in three days at the annual league Showcase event which runs the weekend of September 13-15 at the SensPlex in Ottawa.
“Pembroke is a great hockey town and I’m committed to putting a good product on the ice with the goal of bringing more championships to the city. We have a lot of work to do to prepare for the season, but the coaching staff is excited to get started and is looking forward to the start of training camp in mid-August,” said new Lumber Kings Owner and Coach Alex Armstrong.
Armstrong bought the team in June from Dale McTavish. The acquisition included the Lumber Kings, the U-18 development team and the White Water Kings of the CCHL’s Junior B circuit.
