Mattawa Man Arrested After Canine Unit Search


A Mattawa man faces several criminal charges after being picked up by police on Thursday, in an arrest that involved a search with their canine unit.

Police say a man who police had been looking for was spotted walking along Papineau Road at around 11:45 a.m. on Thursday.

"When officers arrived and attempted to conduct an arrest, the person ran into the bush. OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine assisted with the search. The person was located on Chenier Road at approximately 5:15 p.m. on a stolen bicycle", notes a release from the OPP.

Police say the person was wanted for several offences in Mattawa over a two-day period.  

On September 3, damage was done to a local gas station, a motorcycle was pushed over causing damage and a business on Main Street was broken into.   

Nathan Carrier, age 25, of Mattawa, was arrested and charged with:

  •  Fail to Comply with Recognizance (two counts)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (four counts)
  • Mischief (two counts)
  • Break and Enter
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Escape Lawful Custody

The accused is being held pending bail and is scheduled to appear today at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay.
