Miramichi Lodge Celebrates 50th Anniversary
Residents of Miramichi Lodge Long-Term Care Home joined their families, staff, volunteers and local dignitaries to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the facility this week.
On Wednesday, they gathered outside in the courtyard at the facility to mark the occasion.
Pembroke Mayor Mike LeMay announced that the City of Pembroke, which partners with the County of Renfrew in operating the Home, had proclaimed the day “Miramichi Lodge Day”.
"We are very proud that Miramichi Lodge continues to offer the very best in long-term care to our residents", Renfrew County Warden Jennifer Murphy told the gathering.
"I wish to thank you for each special part you bring to this home to make it a place that truly exemplifies the meaning of community", she added.
Local entertainment was coordinated by the Miramichi Lodge Foundation.
Fifty years ago, the first Miramichi Lodge opened its doors to new residents at 400 Bell Street in Pembroke.
In 2005, the County of Renfrew and City of Pembroke both contributed to provincial funding to construct a new, state of the art “A” facility at its current location at 975 Pembroke Street West.
Local residents and businesses contributed to the capital campaign that ensured this new Home included an auditorium, known as the Community Centre.
