Two Forest Fires Near Petawawa Now Out
Two forest fires that were burning in and near the Algonquin Park Boundary southwest of Petawawa over the last week are now out.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says the fire near Sand Lake, at the far end of Barron Canyon Road, is now out; so is a smaller fire that had been burning near Colby Lake, north of Round Lake Road.
Both of the fires were in unpopulated areas and were each under one hectare in size.
There have been three forest fires in this vicinity this year. Another fire less than one hectare in size was burning inside the Park, near the former CN Rail line just east of Lake Travers, in June. It's since been put out as well.
And there's encouraging news from the scene of a larger blaze south of Kaladar.
A 10 hectare fire that's been burning in an area several kilometres east of Highway 41 is now listed as "under control".
