Whitewater Region Lifts State Of Emergency
One of the townships hardest hit by flooding in the Ottawa Valley has lifted its state of emergency.
Whitewater Region officials made the decision on Thursday, 70 days after declaring the municipal emergecny back on April 26th.
260 properties were impacted in that township alone, and officials say 19 families are still unable to return home to this day.
Flood debris is still being accepted at the landfill on Kohlsmith Road, and the township says it's still working on emergency repairs to roads and other infrastructure.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and housing will be holding a meeting to help people who are hoping for provincial compensation.
It’s happening July 23rd at the Westmeath Community Centre.
