As of Friday afternoon there were seven forest fires in the Northeast Region.

Across the Region the fire hazard ranges from high to extreme, as four new forest fires have appeared.

  • Sault Ste. Marie 9 located on the east side of highway 17 is under control at 0.1 of a hectare.
  • Peterborough 2 located east of route 509 is under control at 0.2 of a hectare.
  • North Bay 13 on a southern island of Lady Evelyn Lake is being held at 0.1 of a hectare.
  • North Bay 14 currently measures 0.3 of a hectare and is located southwest of Cross Lake.

Remember to be very careful while having any campfires to help prevent forest fires. Keep fires small, never leave them unattended, and when you’re finished drown the flame with water, uncover hot coals and drown it again.
