Thomas Rhett and wife expecting baby and adopting baby
Thomas Rhett shared some huge news on Instagram yesterday (Wednesday, February 15th) -- his wife is expecting a baby while at the same time the couple is in the process of adopting a baby from Africa. Both Thomas and his wife of four years, Lauren, posted a picture of themselves holding balloons that spell out the word baby. Thomas wrote, "We're so happy to announce that we are pregnant & in the process of adopting a child from Africa! Safe to say life is about to get crazy!" Lauren added, "OH BABY! actually...BABIES! Our hearts are exploding with happiness for y'all to meet our new baby who we are bringing home from Africa soon who is also going to have a little brother or sister because, SURPRISE! there's a sweet baby in my belly too #adopting&pregnant #cominginhot2017."
People magazine reports that Lauren and Thomas learned the good news about her pregnancy during their recent trip to Tanzania with Florida Georgia Line member Tyler Hubbard and his wife, Hayley. The adoption process was well underway at that point, but Lauren said she felt sick on the trip back in December. Thomas suggested she take a pregnancy test, which Lauren says she truly felt would be negative. Apparently the couple had tried to get pregnant for a while but had no luck so they had given up on the idea in the meantime.
Lauren said, “When we began the adoption process, we said, ‘Let’s wait, let’s give this adopted child his or her time with us and then we’ll continue our family,’ so I was convinced it was food poisoning.”
Thomas had set off to work out when Lauren took the pregnancy test so when she got the unexpected positive result she excitedly broke the news to Tyler and Hayley. Lauren said, “I’m jumping up and down, Tyler’s giving me a bear hug and Hayley’s running out of their room and I’m like, ‘Thomas Rhett is not even here!’” The three ran to find Thomas, who said he was in "complete and utter shock,” adding, “No one is ever prepared for something like that. It is almost like we suddenly had twins.”
Thomas and Lauren are working on finalizing their adoption before their biological baby arrives in August
