Algonquin College Unveils New PSW Lab
Algonquin College's Pembroke Waterfront Campus has revealed a new Personal Support Worker Lab that will better train students to work with elderly patients within their homes. The lab was made possible through a generous anonymous donation and through The Brick furniture store in Pembroke which provided appliances and furnishings for the space.
The lab is located within one of the three nursing labs that already exist at the Campus and includes a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom setting that simulates a home environment.
Shelley Sheedy, the Director of Long Term Care with the County of Renfrew says this lab goes a long way to get students ready for the work world…
"I think it speaks to Algonquin College listening to the feedback from employers and what we need in terms of new graduates. So this state of art lab replicating a real home setting, I think will go a long way to ensuring PSW’s that graduate from Algonquin College are job ready”
In recent months the College has announced that in addition to its traditional fall intake for the Personal Support Worker program, it will also be offering a PSW program in Renfrew in January of 2019.
