Building Demolished Along Petawawa River

A business that was evacuated last week as record water flows on the Petawawa River tore away at the river banks has now been demolished.

Crews were on scene on Sunday tearing down the building that housed a real estate business, near the Petawawa Boulevard bridge across from the Royal Canadian Legion.

The building grounds, and the deep slope beside it, have both been a safety focus, as record high water volumes caused severe erosion along the banks.

The County of Renfrew even closed the nearby Petawawa Boulevard bridge last week for almost two days while crews shored up the river banks with large piles of rocks, to protect the bridge itself and the critical utility lines that run beneath it.
