Cannabis Job Fair Attracts Hundreds Of People

It may be a first in the Pembroke area:  a job fair for a cannabis company drew hundreds of people yesterday.

Glasshouse Botanics is ready to open a 500,000 square foot production facility in Whitewater Region, just east of Pembroke off Greenwood Road, to produce cannabis for the medical and European markets, as soon as they get their Health Canada production licence approved.

Spokesperson Mariana Black says they’re hiring their startup team of about 15 people first, because as soon as they get the green light from Health Canada, they’ll be ready to go.

"It could be as early as the end of the month or it could be two months later", Black said.

"We’re hoping it’s sooner than later - we’re almost ready to go, just doing finishing touches on our building”.

On Tuesday afternoon, a steady stream of people filed into Pembroke's Clarion Hotel and Conference Centre to meet with Glasshouse officials and learn more about the initial wave of jobs that need to be filled.

Black adds that in addition to the applications collected at Tuesday's job fair, there will be more waves of hiring in the future, that  they're accepting resumes anytime for future consideration.

"There will be different positions that will become available, so if we don’t have an opportunity now we’re still saving them for later on”, she noted.

Black says they’re hoping to eventually expand to over 120 employees and expand into research to create their own strains.
