Criminal Charges Over Deadly Mississippi Lake Vehicle Incident

A man from Lanark County is now facing criminal charges in a death involving a vehicle that broke through the ice on Mississippi Lake back in Janaury.

It was just before 4:00 a.m. on January 6th when police were called about a vehicle going through the ice near Craig Shore, in Beckwith Township.

The body of a 31 year old man from Drummond North Elmsley Township was pulled from the lake by police divers.

27 year old Kory Bell of Tay Valley Township, who police say was the driver of the vehicle, is now charged with Dangerous Operation Causing Death, and Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death.

Lanark County OPP say Bell was released from police custody pending a court appearance in Perth.

Police also say their investigation revealed that a second incident involving an ATV breaking through the ice nearby was not connected to this incident.
