Fire Ban Proving Costly in Madawaska Valley
The Fire Ban in the Township of the Greater Madawaska is proving costly.
Over the long weekend the Township of the Greater Madawaska Fire Department issued 15 citations, equaling, $9,000 worth of fines against people having campfires and other open air burning.
Reminders have continually been issued by all municipalities that the Upper Ottawa Valley is a Restricted Fire Zone and that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, does not have the personnel available to deal with any more fires. That is the main reason the bans remain in place.
Anyone who spots a fire, someone burning, or using fireworks is urged to call 911.
