Former LV Councillor Jim Sheedy Dies

A longtime Ottawa Valley community leader has died. 

Jim Sheedy, who was a municipal politician for more than 40 years, passed away on Sunday at the Pembroke Regional Hospital at the age of 81. 

Sheedy served as a Laurentian Valley Councillor from 2000 until his retirement in 2016 due to health reasons. 

Prior to that he was the Reeve and a Councillor in the former Stafford-Pembroke Township in the late 1990's.

He also served as Reeve of Stafford from 1991 to 1996, Deputy Reeve of Stafford from 1985 to 1991, and a Councillor for Stafford from 1975 to 1984.

Sheedy was also well known for his career in the real estate sector, and was involved in a number of community groups and causes over the years.

He is being remembered warmly in several social media posts and comments.

The family will be receiving friends at the Neville Funeral Home in Pembroke Thursday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m., and on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
