Four People Escape House Fire In Pembroke

Four people escaped from a house fire in west end Pembroke overnight.

Pembroke firefighters were called to a home on Pembroke Street West, near Blakely Crescent, just before midnight.

Acting Fire Department Captain Darryl Andrews says flames were coming out of the home when crews arrived.

"It was a full offensive attack when they got there", Andrews told Star 96.7.

"The fire was mitigated and put out in fairly short order.  It just took a little time because it was stubborn, and inside the ceiling and that area, to get it fully extinguished", Andrews added.

Fire officials say the residents of the home had tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher prior to the arrival of firefighters.

Everyone made it out safely.

Red Cross and Victim Services were contacted to assess the needs of the displaced occupants.

The fire was contained to the rear portion of the home, and a damage estimate has not been released at this time.

The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Crews were expecting to remain on scene until later Monday morning as that investigation gets underway.
