Heavy Rain: Special Weather Statement & Warning

We’re expecting a lot of rain over the next 24 hours.

Environment Canada has most of the Valley under a Special Weather Statement, predicting 20 to 40 millimetres of rain by tomorrow at noon.

Areas farther west, including the Deep River to Mattawa corridor and Algonquin Park, are under a rainfall warning and could see up to 50 mm of rain.

It's all coming from a low pressure system that will take its time passing through the area, with the precipitation expected to be heaviest Thursday afternoon and Thursday night, before tapering off to scattered showers Friday morning.

"The ground, already near saturation, has a lessened ability to absorb further rainfall. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible", notes the advisory from Environment Canada.
