Hwy 17 PARTIALLY RE-OPENS FOLLOWING COLLISION BETWEEN PEMBROKE & COBDEN
Highway 17 has partially re-opened following a collision just before noon today. The 2 vehicle collision happened on Highway 17 west of Mountain Road in Whitewater Region Township. It involved a westbound passenger vehicle and an eastbound tractor trailer unit which was carrying a load of lumber. The drivers from each vehicle were extricated by Whitewater Region Firefighters and taken to hospital. Police described injuries to the 2 drivers involved as non-life threatening. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Highway 17 was closed completely for about three hours. One lane re-opened at around 3pm.
Officers are on scene with heavy tow operators who are now removing the tractor trailer and its spilled cargo that landed in a ditch.
Motorists should expect delays. The highway is expected to be fully open by early evening. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
