Man Charged For Illegally Hunting Black Bear in Eganville

An Ayr man has been fined a thousand dollars for unlawfully hunting black bear in Eganville.

Alex Bestfather pleaded guilty and was fined for hunting the black bear without a licence.

On November 16, 2017 conservation officers from Guelph were inspecting a butcher shop in southern Ontario when they saw a harvested black bear and noted inconsistencies with the tag. An investigation determined that on November 9th Bestfather had shot the bear while deer hunting in the Eganville area. After shooting the bear he drove to Eganville to purchase a black bear hunting licence and then drove to the butcher shop.
