Massive Power Outage Blamed On Line Damage, Weather

A damaged power line was the cause of Sunday's massive outage in the northern part of Renfrew County.

Hydro One spokesperson Richard Francella tells Star 96.7 crews worked hard to isoalte and fix the problem on Sunday afternoon.

He says the adverse weather on Sunday was likely the source of the line damage.

Freezing rain was falling on most of the area as the outages began just before 3:00 p.m on Sunday.

At one point, more than 12,700 customers were without electricity in an area that included parts of Laurentian Valley, Petawawa, Laurentian Hills, Deep River, and Head, Clara and Maria.

Most service was restored by just before 5:00 p.m. Sunday.

Pockets of outages were also reported in the Barry's Bay and Killaloe areas, some of which were still being restored on Monday afternoon.

Hydro One was expecting to have all service restored by around 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
