NAW Election Dispute Goes To Court In Pembroke
Almost three months after the municipal election, one local result will be the subject of a court hearing on Thursday.
One of the council candidates in North Algona Wilberforce, Kevin Clarke, has appealed an earlier recount that saw him lose his council seat to challenger Melvin Berndt by 14 votes.
Officials with North Algona Wilberforce tell Star 96.7 a judge will take a look at the matter in Pembroke court on Thursday morning, and is expected to decide at that time whether a judicial recount is warranted.
The court hearing is not a guarantee that a judicial recount will happen.
As we reported back in December, one of the central issues in the dispute centered around whether checkmarks versus "x"’s the ballots constituted valid votes or spoiled the ballots.
