Pembroke Man Arrested & Charged Twice In Theft Investigations

A Pembroke man faces a number of criminal charges after being arrested twice over two days, on police investigations of shoplifting and theft.

Upper Ottawa Valley OPP say on April 11, they responded to a shoplifting call at a large retail store in the 1100 block of Pembroke Street East, in Laurentian Valley Township.   According to police, a male suspect had left the store on foot after trying to steal a bicycle.

The man was taken into custody at a shopping mall a short time later, where police allege he had shoplifted a pair of sunglasses from a store in the mall. The stolen property was returned and the suspect was charged and released.

However, the following morning (April 12), police say they responded to a theft in progress after a pair of sunglasses was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Mary Street.

The same suspect was arrested later that same day and found to be in possession of the stolen sunglasses.
24-year-old Chayton Gerald Geoffrey of Pembroke faces the following charges:

  • Theft under $5000 shoplifting - two counts
  • Theft under $5000 from a motor vehicle
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Fail to comply with probation - two counts

Geoffrey was scheduled to appear in a Pembroke court on Tuesday.
