Petawawa Woman Charged With Arson

A Petawawa woman has been charged with arson, in connection with a house fire that broke out in the town last month.

It was back on January 9th when a fire gutted a house on Herman Street.

At the time, fire officials said the blaze was so intense that crews who had initially gone into the house to fight it had to retreat and battle it from outside.

Police say a woman, who was the only person in the home at the time, was not injured.

An investigation followed over the ensuing weeks.

On Thursday, the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP announced that 35 year old Nikki Jo-Marie McGuigan of Petawawa was arrested on February 11th.

McGuigan has been charged with one count of arson, which is a Criminal Code offence.

She was released on a promise to appear in court on March 19.

The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP say their investigation involved the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office and the OPP’s Crime Unit, along with the Forensic Identification Service were all involved in the probe.
