Roof Collapses At Tree Top Restaurant

No injuries were reported after the roof collapsed on Sunday evening at the Tree Top Restaurant on Highway 17 in Chalk River.

Laurentian Hills Fire Chief Kevin Waito tells Star 96.7 they got the call to the well known restaurant at around 7 o’clock last night.

He says everyone had made it safely out of the building by the time crews arrived.

"Upon arrival, we learned that all of the occupants were out of the building", Waito said.

"We had the utilities disconnected, placed fire line tape up, and then turned the scene over to the owner and the OPP", he added.

Pictures and video posted on Sunday evening, including a photo posted by the North Renfrew Times, show there is damage to both sides of the roof.

The extent of damage inside was not immediately clear.

The restaurant along Highway 17 has been a fixture in the community for years, serving as a rest stop for passenger bus routes that pass through the area.

An investigation is underway.
