SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION CANCELLED on Monday across Renfrew County

School bus transportation is cancelled across Renfrew County for Monday, April 8, as Environment Canada updates its freezing rain warning for the region.

The Renfrew County Joint Transportation Consortium announced the bus cancellations just before 5:30 a.m. on Monday.

Schools will remain open across the county.

The warning now says there could be a "prolonged" period of freezing rain for the area later today.

The weather agency says the rain will change to freezing rain sometime Monday morning, and could last for at least a few hours during the afternoon, as temperatures will struggle to get above zero today.

5 mm of ice accretion is possible, meaning surfaces could become quite slippery and ice buildup could cause tree branches to break if the freezing rain persists.

It’s expected to change back to drizzle tonight, but then we're expecting 5 cm of snow overnight and into Tuesday.
