Showcasing Women In Renfrew County: International Women's Day

The accomplishments of Renfrew County women are in the spotlight today.

An International Women’s Day breakfast in Pembroke, organized by the Women’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County, will showcase seven women whose stories were collected and shared through a nomination process to honour their achievments, accomplishments, and their work to overcome obstacles.

It's called the "Women of Renfrew County Showcase Project".

Project organizer Belinda Thomas says the stories are all different, and so is the way each woman had an impact on lives around her.

But, Thomas says, they can all be mentors.

"One thing that really stood out in all of the interviews is the fact that they all just kept fighting for what they wanted to do, their passion", Thomas told Star 96.7.

"Every time they were told they couldn't do something, they did it.  And, they knew that sometimes it would take time ... but they kept working toward whatever their end goal was", Thomas added.

"That was a common theme with all even of them".

Thomas says the goal is to inspire the younger generation of women to keep working for what they believe in.

"It's just so that any youth could look at them and say, 'that could be me', or 'I could do that too'.

This breakfast at Finnigan’s is one of many events being held around the region to mark the day.
