The "Road To High Readiness": Busy Year For Garrison Petawawa Training
2019 is going to be a big year for training at Garrison Petawawa.
This summer, troops will begin a new three-year training cycle to be ready for Canada’s next deployments, such as the NATO and UN deployments currently underway in Latvia and in Mali.
Garrison Commander, Colonel Louis Lapointe, says this summer’s “Road To High Readiness” … will involve training at a small group and at a brigade level to prepare troops for whatever deployments may be in the pipeline for 2020.
"The summer of 2020 is when they'll go back to high readiness, and be ready to go out the door to Latvia, or to Ukraine, or to whatever other missions we might be called upon", Lapointe told Star 96.7.
While some Petawawa troops are currently returning from Latvia, others are still deployed on the UN peacekeeping mission in the volatile African nation of Mali, where they are bringing a first-of-its-kind “mobile air medical” emergency room to the deployment zone.
The three-year training cycle starts with the "Road To High Readiness" phase, then a deployment phase, and then a reconstitution phase -- which is the phase the troops returning from active deployments are in now.
