It happened just after 12:30 yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon. A westbound tractor trailer lost control and rolled onto its side spilling its load of powdered nickel on to the roadway. The driver was not injured. Local detours were put in place and Highway 17 was closed for almost 12 hours as a result of the investigation. The spilled cargo was removed with the assistance of a vacuum truck. The 39-year-old driver, Jean Francois Gagnon of Montreal, Quebec, has been charged with careless driving.
The recent snow storm in Eastern Canada caused many road accidents. This trucker rammed a couple of police cars that were already in an unfortunate situation.
