UPDATE: House Fire In Petawawa
A fire in Petawawa on Wednesday morning that destroyed a house is being treated as suspicious by the OPP.
Firefighters were called to a bungalow on Herman Street, near Laroche Crescent, just after 11:00 a.m.
The fire was quite intense when crews arrived, and it wasn't long before firefighters were forced to get out of the house.
“When we arrived on scene there was heavy fire on the front of the house”, Petawawa Deputy Fire Chief Craig Proulx said at the scene.
He says at one point the time became unsafe for crews to be inside, and they were forced out.
“Our crews made an aggressive interior attack but had to pull out, due to the floor being soft”, Proulx added.
“There is significant damage to the structure”.
After the fire was brought under control, the investigation began.
The OPP now say the fire is being treated as suspicious but haven't commented on a possible cause at this time.
Police say there was one woman inside the home at the time of the fire, and they say she was not injured.
Paramedics tell Star 96.7 they did provide treatement for one person who has medical issues, but they did not elaborate.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is being called in to assist with the investigation.
Garrison Petawawa firefighters also supported town fire crews during the incident, as did a crew from Hydro One.
