Yakabuski Trying To Sell Municipalities on Repealing Green Energy Act

The Province is promising local communities will have more control over renewable energy projects within their boundaries under its plan to repeals the Green Energy Act.

Renfrew Nipissing Pembroke MPP, John Yakabuski, says the focus is the bigger projects that can generate controversy within communities.

And these projects for the most part; you know, we are not talking about the little roof top solar, we are talking about the big projects, particularly wind, large solar farms.”

The Green energy Act was brought in by the Liberals in 2009 but Yakabuski says the system as it stands does not offer local community leaders enough of a say.  The opposition NDP says the Tories’ move to cancel it is largely symbolic since there are no current projects to cancel.
