    Northport Lions Club Monthly Bingo

    The Northport Lions Club is hosting its monthly bingo session on Sunday May 5th from 1pm to 4pm in the Northport school cafeteria at 404 10th Street in Northport. Games include Early Bird, Regular, Fast Pick and Blackout with a $500 Jackpot. Canadian and U.S. currency welcome, participants must be at least 18 years of age to play, doors open at noon and play begins at 1pm.

    Shoe Bank Canada’s will be having a 2 day pop-up event – they will be giving away footwear for people in need at Expressions Theatre (554 Ward St, Nelson). This 2 day event will be on Friday May 3 and Saturday May 4 from 10am-3pm.

    Camp Day is the day each year when Tim Hortons restaurant owners donate 100% of coffee sales. Additionally, bracelets are sold for $2, with all money raised supporting Tim Hortons Camps. Tim Hortons Camp experiences help young people from low-income homes become their best selves.

    Clothesline Project

    Millennium Park - Castlegar
    The Clothesline Project, which brings awareness to the issue of violence within our community, takes place on Wednesday, May 29 at Millennium Park in Castlegar. There will be speakers, life performances, displays, information tables and resources, food and drinks. EZ Rock will be on location as well! The annual project recognizes victims and survivors of domestic abuse as well as those who have experienced other forms of violence. The Clothesline Project highlights the supports within our community and encourages conversations on this important issue which could impact anyone.

    Mental Health Week

    The national Canadian Mental Health Association’s 68th Mental Health Week is from Monday May 6 to 12. This Canadian tradition aims to raise mental health awareness and mental health promotion in schools, work, at home and in communities. There will be a number of events throughout the Kootenays for Mental Health Week. Trail – Wednesday May 1 at 1pm – Infinitely Polar Bear will be playing at the Trail Royal Theatre, community service info will be available in the lobby. Admission is free. Grand Forks – Tuesday May 7 – the Farmer’s Market from 11-12. Boundary Mental Health and Addictions Services will be partnering with Public Health and the Family and Individual Services Society providing information on local mental health services and community resources, as well as giveaways, games and snacks. Nelson – Tuesday May 7 – at the Nelson Clubhouse from 9:30-3pm, there will be a Wellness Day and BBQ, there will be speakers and presentations focusing on the theme, “Transitions”. Castlegar – Friday May 10 at the Castlegar Clubhouse from 11-1pm. The Mountainside Mental Health & Addictions Clubhouse will be hosting a community awareness BBQ from 11am-1:00pm. The event is open to the general public and local businesses. It will include presentations from local RCMP and Mental Health and Substance Use Health Services management, with a focus on building community partnerships and decreasing the stigma associated with mental illness. Nakusp – Friday May 10 at 7pm “Silver Linings Playbook” will be playing at the Arrow Lakes Theatre and on Saturday May 11 at 2pm the theatre will be showing “Inside Out” admission is free, please bring a donation for the local food bank.
