Camping Out By-law
Tent cities in Vernon's Polson Park will have to be dismantled every morning.
City staff say there have been concerns recently about the development of additional "camps" in Polson Park.
Council voted to allow people in Polson Park from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. but only if shelter beds are not available and they will have to remove their tents every day.
The new by-law will be monitored by by-law and the RCMP. City staff estimate there are about 39 homeless residents, which is a five to ten per cent increase over last year.
