Drought Level Increases
Despite cooler temperatures and predicted rain in the Okanagan this week, the BC government has escalated the Okanagan to a level 3 drought rating.
Corinne Jackson with the Okanagan Basin Water Board says what counts is how much rain falls and if it makes up for the deficit we came into the season with.
She says, "We had a low snowpack and an early melt, so we know that we already have less water in our valley than normal. It really depends on how much we actually get over the next little while as to whether or not it makes a difference"
They are suggesting residents reduce their water use by 30 per cent. Jackson says if we don't conserve now we could end up in a more difficult situation later in the summer.
