"Heads Up" this winter
North Okanagan RCMP and the City of Vernon are launching the "Heads Up" campaign this week - aimed at keeping pedestrians safe in high risk locations.
Police and volunteers will be distributing reflectors and safety tips to pedestrians and drivers throughout the month of November.
Police say pedestrian collisions most often occur when drivers are turning right or left at intersections and when pedestrians are wearing dark clothing and not paying attention to what is around them.
Christine Kirby with ICBC says 43% of all crashes where a pedestrian gets injured happen from October to January, as visibility and conditions get worse.
The campaign will be promoted on social media with the hashtag #HeadsUp
