Highway Flagger Hit with Full Can of Beer
Sicamous RCMP are seeking public assistance at identifying a suspect driver who allegedly threw a beer can at a flag person on Hwy 1 on Monday.
RCMP say on Monday shortly after 9:00AM an employee of a flagging crew was assaulted when someone in a passing vehicle threw a full can of beer, striking him in the head. The man was busy setting up a cautionary sign on Highway 1 west of Sicamous when he was struck by the can of beer. The victim was wearing a hard hat and glasses at the time of the assault which were both knocked off of his head. The hard hat prevented the victim from any significant injury.
The offending vehicle was described as a small black car without a front license plate. The victim was unable to identify the make or specific model of the vehicle. The information was immediately relayed to the Salmon Arm RCMP to attempt to intercept the suspect vehicle, however a time delay in the report being made to police resulted in the vehicle not being located.
Police say this incident illustrates the danger that highway flaggers face in their duties. The flagger could have easily been seriously injured by the dangerous and senseless actions of the person responsible for this assault.
Anyone with information regarding this incident are asked to contact the Sicamous RCMP at 250-836-2878 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
