Kin Race Track Done

A piece of Vernon's history will be gone by summer.

The city of Vernon has approved the demolition of the Kin Race Track site. The $560,000 will come from the insurance fund from a fire several years ago.

Staff told council that homeless encampments also continue to be a concern, placing individuals camping in these areas at risk and result in additional costs relating to bylaw enforcement, security, garbage and debris removal.

The Chair of the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee and City Councillor, Akbal Mund says there will be a public consultation process before any build.  He says the land will be owned by the City and the process will be lead by the city with approval from GVAC partners.

The demo will be complete by the end of August.
