Overdose Prevention Site Delay

Interior Health is slowing down its plans for an overdose prevention site in Vernon.

After receiving pushback from council and the business community, IH says it decided to pause the request for proposals process to allow for further consultation.

Interior Health says as originally planned, the implementation date and location for the services will be determined through the procurement process.   IH issued a release saying, "Establishing an overdose prevention site in Vernon is an important addition to the continuum of health-care services for people with opioid use disorders. Other components include Opioid Agonist Treatments (such as methadone and Suboxone), intensive day and residential treatment programs, distribution of harm reduction supplies including Naloxone, and supportive recovery services."

The health authority had hoped to open a safe injection site in Vernon this summer.
