Reminder to be Careful with Cigarettes

The B-C Wildfire Service suspects both fires in the Shuswap are human-caused and it's reminding people to be careful with any burning and not to toss cigarette butts out of windows.

Unusually mild and dry weather means wildfire season has arrived in B-C with several fires breaking out in recent days.

B-C Forests Minister Doug Donaldson says the province is ready if spring rains fail to drench already parched forests and grasslands.  Environment Canada says March was one of the driest on record in many areas of the province.

The B-C Wildfire Service says there have been 11 fires since Friday, including two separate fires east of Kamloops on the Neskonlith First Nations territory are under control and neither have grown in size.
Both are now in the mop-up stage.
