Snowfall Warning

Most of southern BC, including the North Okanagan and Shuswap are under a weather warning for heavy snowfall this morning.

Environment Canada says 15 to 25 cm of snow is are expected in the Vernon area later today due to the arrival of a Pacific weather system.  More snowfall expected overnight tonight and into tomorrow morning.

The Columbias, Kootenays, Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver are all under the same caution for heavy snowfall and winter storm conditions.

An avalanche has shut down the Trans Canada Highway at the BC-Alberta border.  There were concerns that some vehicles may have been covered, but Field Fire Chief Jamieson Harbottle says only one tractor-trailer unit is mired in the debris -- and that's because the driver tried to take his rig through the snow and became stuck.

Parks Canada says avalanche control is underway on the Trans-Canada Highway through Yoho National Park near Field.  Spokesperson,  Lindsay McPherson,  says the road is expected to reopen by 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
