Special Weather Statement

An Environment Canada special weather statement is calling for up to 40 mm of rain to fall in the Okanagan valley by the end of the week.

Forecasters are calling for showers and thunderstorms over the next few days will impact areas affected by overland flooding. Total rainfall amounts will be in the 20 to 40 mm range by late Friday.
Embedded thunderstorms and the continued risk of heavy downpours are possible in these areas.

Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says he's hopeful the Okanagan may only see half that amount. He says this type of rainfall would normally be welcome, but not when there's possible flooding on the line.

He says the rainstorm is originating in the Kootenays, and moving northwest across the mountains.

Okanagan Lake due to reach full capacity by tomorrow and surpass that by the weekend.
