3% Hotel Tax
The City of Vernon will begin collecting 3% Hotel Tax, up from the current 2% on January 1, 2018.
All of the funds generated are used for tourism marketing, programs and projects. The additional revenue, estimated to be $300,000 annually
The City says Vernon has had the fastest growing MRDT in the Thompson Okanagan each and every year since its first full year of collecting in 2011. Room revenue was up 8.3% as of the end of July 2017, however 2011 was the busiest year with 34.7-million dollars in room revenue, which resulted in $693,621.27 in the tourism promotion fund. Last year room revenue was down by 20-million dollars, with just $348,157.38 generated by the 2% tax.
