55+ BC Games Opening Ceremony
The 30th annual 55+ BC Games officially got underway in Vernon Wednesday night.
Thirty-six-hundred participants from 12 zones across the province marched into Kal Tire Place. They were welcomed by members of the Okanagan Indian Band and local politicians.
Maxine Smallwood of Kitimat — who has competed in all 30 games — and Vernon’s Recreation Services Director Doug Ross lit the torch to officially begin the games.
Downtown Vernon is hosting a big event for the 55+ Games Thursday night.
Mayor Akbal Mund says the locals and athletes will enjoy it. "A Taste of the Okanagan Artisan Market" is a fun, outdoor street festival that will showcase live music, artisans, buskers, food, wine and shopping on 30th Avenue from 4:30 till 7:30 from. 30th Avenue will be closed from 3000-3300 beginning at 2:30pm.
