55+ Games Update
The Vernon & Area 2017 55+ BC Games Host Society is pleased to announce the
hiring of their Operations Manager, Luiz Araujo, a new office space, and request another general
reminder calling for volunteers.
Although the 2017 55+ BC Games is comprised primarily of volunteers, there is one 8-month
contract position. The Operations Manager oversees the Games office and its activities while
supporting the Board of Directors and their Directorate Chairs. “On behalf of the Board, I am
thrilled to introduce Luiz Araujo as our Operations Manager for the 2017 55+ BC Games. Luiz’
communication and leadership skills combined with his broad experience in multi-sports games
and events make him an ideal candidate for this demanding role.” commented Wee Yee,
President, Vernon & Area 2017 55+ BC Games.
Araujo comes with impressive credentials having been a senior manager of the Security
Integration team for the Toronto 2015 Pan/ParaPan Am Games, the largest multi-sport games
ever held in Canada, and the third largest games in the world. Araujo also served 35 years with
the Canadian Forces serving in numerous positions including Defence Attaché to Brazil and
other prominent international postings around the globe.
Recently relocated from Toronto to be closer to his daughter, Araujo is excited with his Games
role and being a new Vernon resident. “Last year I decided to retire and my wife and I moved to
Vernon to enjoy the wonderful Okanagan lifestyle. However, when the opportunity arose to
work with the Vernon & Area 55+ BC Games in such a key role, I decided to postpone retirement
for just a little while longer. It is great to be part of such a dedicated team and, at the same time,
to be able to help my new community as it prepares to host 3,500 participants, officials, and spectators.
The games will require 1200 volunteers, so far they have 200.
