The Vancouver Humane Society is raising concerns about the bull riding fundraiser in Lumby next month.
Spokesperson, Peter Fricker says bull-riding, like most rodeo events, relies on causing animals distress in order to make them perform. Fricker, the Projects and Communications Director, is asking people in Lumby to speak out for the animals and call for the cancellation of the event.
Organizer, Angie Clowry says animal activists have an important job drawing attention to abused animals, but she says that's not the case and there are many myths about rodeo events. Clowry is urging residents with concerns to contact her.
The Bull Bash & Barn Dance is set for April 22nd and is a fundraiser for improvements at the arena, part of the Hockeyville upgrades.
