Kal Lake Rd Closure

Businesses in the Alpine Centre are concerned about the impact of the construction on Kal Lake Road will have on their businesses.

Vernon Council has reviewed the proposed construction schedule for the Kalamalka Lake Road Cycle Corridor project and opted not use a full road closure for the duration of the project for the section between Browne Road and the boundary with the District of Coldstream. Council considered two options: to fully close the road for 12-16 weeks, which would then be the full duration of the project, or to use single-alternating traffic for a portion of the roadwork and close the road for 6-8 weeks, the minimum time required, extending the duration of the project to 20-24 weeks. Council voted for the second option.“The City will work to maintain access for residents and businesses while building a project that will ultimately be an economic asset for Vernon,” said Amanda Watson, Manager of Transportation.Council’s primary concern was that the best possible access should be provided to the businesses and residents in the area.

Council reviewed the requests, including a 46-page petition, and considered the impacts of the different schedules (including single lane alternating traffic or night work) would cause to businesses and residents in the area. I
