Local Vimy Celebrations

On Sunday, April 9th,  the world commemorates the 100th anniversary of the World War One battle in France when Canadian soldiers took Vimy Ridge.

In Vernon, there will be a ceremony at the Cenotaph at 10am.

A Vernon resident is marking the anniversary in his own way.  Andy Wiley says, "Following the Cenotaph ceremony we will take a short walk to the Vimy Lane Memorial Tribute. We are inviting All nearby Royal Canadian Legions in this zone as well as the Army and Navy branches."

Wiley's backyard is draped with flags and he's rented two large searchlights that will shine in the shape of a large V from the Allan Brooks Nature Centre on Saturday and Sunday night.
