Hikers are reminded to always prepare for emergencies when in the back country.
Thursday morning Vernon Search and Rescue was called to help find an elderly hiker who became lost and in need of medical assistance near The Rise Golf Course
He'd gone hiking in steep terrain early in the morning, and had become disoriented. The temperature was near zero in the area, and when the hiker phoned 911 for help he explained that he was lost and extremely cold. His cellphone lost power shortly thereafter. Due to medical concerns and the steep, difficult terrain the SAR Helicopter Rescue team was called to take him out to an ambulance at the Vernon airport.
