Outrage Over Sonja Morgan and Dorinda Medley's Trans-phobic Comments
Real Housewives of New York Sonja Morgan and Dorinda Medley issued apologies after getting busted making rude comments about drag and transgender models at New York Fashion Week, but social media isn’t having it.
Morgan has hosted several LGBTQ Pride events and has publicly declared “it’s obvious I love my gays.” She was filmed with fellow RHONY stars Luann de Lesseps and Ramona Singer and she and Medley made remarks that have rubbed many the wrong way.
Drag queen Miz Cracker and trans model Yasmine Petty hit the runway, and in a now-deleted Instagram Story, Medley can be heard saying of Petty: “Well with a body like that, it’s a guy. That’s a guy.”
Morgan responds: “With a body like that it’s a guy, you’re absolutely right. Oh lord.”
After their commentary was noted (and started trending), they issued an apology to Page Six: “We have a history as longstanding supporters of the LGBTQ community in many ways and apologize for our offensive comments at the fashion show.”
Commenters on Twitter weren’t impressed, with several calling on Bravo and Andy Cohen to fire them. Wrote one: "So @Andy gonna act like Eddie Murphy’s 80s stand up was ;very problematic for him when he was coming up' to try to get a sound bite out of @Instatituss... But he still keeps these two on the payroll?"
