2 men arrested after pill containing fentanyl found in Esgenoôpetitj
Police say two men have been arrested after a pill containing fentanyl was found on the Esgenoôpetitj First Nation.
Jesse Joe, 35, of Fredericton has been remanded into custody after being charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and breach of probation.
A 60-year-old man from Esgenoôpetitj has been released pending a court appearance at a later date.
Mounties say several Esgenoôpetitj residents have been hospitalized since April 10 from suspected fentanyl overdoes.
Police are still investigating the April 11 death of a 35-year-old woman on the First Nation, saying an autopsy determined she died of an overdose, although they're still awaiting toxicology results.
Investigators say a blue pill with "Percocet 5" written on it seized as part of their investigation was confirmed by Health Canada to contain fentanyl.
